Jul 14, 2010 - 8:57:06 AM
At 21:56 Engine 5-11-1 was dispatched for a spill control in the 3000 block of willow street pike north. Engine 1 went in route with a crew of 6 and county came back with the additional of a 200 gallon kerosene tank leaking. Upon arrival Dep-5-11 took the command and found a 275 gallon fuel oil tank on its side that was 95% full leaking from the stem where is was broken off as well as from the vent. Crew quickly worked on containing the fuel coming out of the tanks as they worked on plans to stop the leak. Lieutenant 1 temporarily stopped the leak from the stem with a golf tee that was later reinforced with a bar of soap by Chief 5-11. The crews then began to raise the end of the tank with the spreaders as we used box cribbing to stabilize the tank. Once the tanks was stabilized and all the leaks were stopped representatives from the fuel oil supplier arrived to reclaim all the oil that was captured in buckets as well as a large portion of the tank so we could up right the tank and remove all the cribbing. Crews kept the amount of run off to a minimal and cleared the incident @ 00:22
